Lupins may look like they belong here, but they’re considered a pest in New Zealand. Despite their stunning appearance, they’re not native and can disrupt local ecosystems. Their beauty, however, remains undeniable, and their blooms only last a brief 3-4 weeks each year – making this picnic experience truly rare. While Queenstown has the occasional lupin bloom, expansive fields are hard to find. Glenorchy, Crown Range, and Arrowtown are among the few places where you can witness this natural wonder, making this picnic a special experience for a lucky few.
